Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow - Blasphemous Guide - IGN (2025)

Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow is the first level in Blasphemous. It acts as a short tutorial, introducing you to the basic mechanics of the game. On this page, you'll find a walkthrough of this area, as well as information on the first boss you'll encounter.

After a cut scene providing some lore behind the story of Blasphemous, you can awaken The Penitent One. When you've done this, The Penitent One will automatically consume a Biliary Flask.

Biliary Flasks are used to recover health and can be refilled by resting at Prie Dieu. Finding empty vessels will allow you to increase the amount of Biliary Flasks you can carry.

Follow the path to the right, go down the stairs and through the first door.

Continue to the right, jumping over the platforms, then drop down through the floor, to reach the bottom. Slide through the narrow gap, then through the door.

Approach the two statues with the symbols on top and interact with them, then continue on until you reach your first Prie Dieu.

Resting at a Prie Dieu will save your game and refill your health and flasks. When you die, the last Prie Dieu you interacted with will be your restart point, but all enemies will also respawn.

Rest at the Prie Dieu then continue to the right, go through the door and you'll reach your first boss battle - the Warden of the Silent Sorrow.

Warden of the Silent Sorrow Boss Fight

During the boss fight, the Warden of the Silent Sorrow will stick to two attacks.

• The first one is a leaping attack, where the warden will jump up and slam its weapon down onto the ground. You can slide or jump out of the way of these attacks, then quickly get behind to land a few hits of your own
• The second attack is a shockwave. The warden will slam its weapon down onto the ground, sending out a purple shockwave attack. Jump to avoid this one, then slide over to the warden to attack.

Once you've defeated the warden, you'll obtain the A Long Path Ahead achievement.

Finishing Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow

Continue on and through the door. Here you'll reach a room with a door, that you won't be able to enter yet. If you interact with it, it will say that you "need the Key to the Chamber of the Eldest Brother to open this door".

To the right of the door is a gate, and a contraption above that you need to jump and hit. Doing so will raise the gate, and allow you to continue to the right.

This will finish the basic tutorial and the first level, leading you to the second level - The Holy Line.

Returning Once you Have the Key to the Chamber of the Eldest Brother

During the level Mercy Dreams, you'll come across a Merchant called Candelaria who is selling the Key to the Chamber of the Eldest Brother for 400 Tears of Atonement. When you've purchased this, you can return to Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow to unlock the door.

Inside the Chamber of the Eldest Brother

Interact with the chest to obtain one of the Relics Blood Perpetuated in Sand.

You can use this to create new ledges across the map that were previously invisible. This will help you collect items that you wouldn't have been able to reach at the start of the game.

After Jondo

Once you've reached the point in Jondo where you activate the platform for Redento to cross, you'll pass through the Mountains of The Endless Dusk. If you continue going left here, you'll come to a Prie Dieu then to the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow.

There are multiple doors here for you to enter. The first, on the bottom left, is a Mea Culpa Shrine that will strengthen the Mea Culpa and let you purchase new combat techniques. Jump up on the ledge and climb the ladder to reach the second door on the left. This one is a portal that will allow you to fast travel.

Climb up the ledges on the right, to reach the third door on the left.

In here, you'll be able to increase the spaces on your rosary, using the Knot of Rosary Rope items. Continue climbing the ledges, then take the ladder up and you'll see Redento again. You'll also see a door to the left, where you can be cleansed of Guilt and another that is shut.

There's a boulder blocking the way for you and Redento to go back through the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow, to the right.

Go through the big door here instead, to reach the other side.

Inside the Door

When you go inside, head left and to the middle where the candelabra is. Drop down here onto the ledges. Be careful as most of the ledges in this area crumble and there are spikes underneath. Make your way over to the left, slide through the gap and then jump over to the wall where you can hang with your sword.

Make your way over to the right, climb up onto the middle section, avoiding the spikes that shoot up, then drop down on the left-hand side, in order to jump over to the left part of the room. Climb up the left wall, then hop over to the ledge on the right, then up to the one above it. Slide through and be ready to jump up to the wall on the left. Jump over to the ladder, then to the ledge on the right with the spikes. Dash through here and onto the crumbling ledges above the spikes. Head all the way over to the right, then down the ladder, on the left here you can pick up the Metatarsus of Rikusyo, the Traveller.

Once you've collected this, head through the door.

Hit the contraption above to lower the ladder and pick up the Medium Bead of Blue Wax from the statue.

Go left and hit the boulder, so you can get back to Redento easily. Then climb the ladder.

Up the Ladder

When you get up the ladder, you can go left or right. Go left and the Blood Perpetuated in Sand will reveal ledges for you to climb up to the ladder you see.

As you reach the top of the ladder, more will appear to help you climb up in the next room, to the door on the top left. This will take you to a Prie Dieu. Continue left and you'll reach more blood ledges Use these to get all the way across to the left and pick up Tirana of the Celestial Bastion.

You can make your way back across, using the lower levels of the blood ledges.
