Body found at Porthallow search for missing Helston area woman

A body has been found by emergency services searching for a woman who has been missing since the early hours of this morning.

Police were called early this morning (Monday September 26) to concerns for the welfare of a woman in her 60s, who was reported missing from her home in the Helston area.

The search led officers to Porthallow Beach and a localized search took place this morning, with support from Coastguard and RNLI search and rescue teams.

Sadly around 10am this morning a body was found in the water and shortly after was pronounced deceased.

The beach remains closed to the public for the time being.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “This death is not being treated as suspicious and next of kin have been advised of this development.

“A case must be prepared for the coroner, and at the moment Porthallow Beach is closed to the public.”

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said crews from Porthleven, Falmouth, Porthoustock and Mullion had been called in, along with lifeboats, the Coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter, an air ambulance and a service of ambulance.

They said: “Her Majesty’s Coastguard was involved in the search for a missing person last night and this morning at Porthallow Beach, Lizard Peninsula.

“The Coastguard was first alerted to the incident at around 3am. Coastguard rescue teams from Porthleven, Falmouth, Porthoustock and Mullion were present, along with lifeboats from Falmouth and a Newquay Coastguard helicopter.

“Cornwall Air Ambulance, South West Ambulance Service, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and Devon and Cornwall Police were also in attendance.”
