Car burned in Inverness Street horror attack as cops launch investigation

A car has been set on fire in a horror attack outside an apartment block on a Scottish street.

The vehicle was set on fire on Benula Road, Inverness, in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters and police rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze around 12.20pm after receiving reports that the car had been set on fire.

Footage from the scene shows the interior of the car engulfed in flames as a car horn exploded nearby.

A video shows how residents rushed out of their homes to move their cars which were parked near the vehicle that was set on fire.

A person can be heard shouting “what the fuck is this”, as thick black smoke billowed from the engine.

While others are seen standing in the street as they watched firefighters blast their hoses in a bid to put out the flames.

Officers at the scene were seen moving residents away from the fire as they shouted ‘you must step back’.

Police have confirmed they consider the incident suspicious and believe the fire was started deliberately.

No one was injured as a result of the fire, police confirmed.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At approximately 12.20am on Monday 12 September 2022, police were called to a burning car outside flats on Benula Road, Inverness.

“No one was injured but the car was significantly damaged.

“Officers are treating the fire as suspicious and investigations are continuing.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for comment.
