Fire Industry Association unveils program for FIA inaugural conference

THE INAUGURAL Conference of the Fire Industry Association (FIA) will take place on Wednesday 14th September at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Following FIM Expo, taking place at the same venue the day before, the Trade Association will examine how the fire industry has changed following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in June 2017.

Presented under the title: “What has changed in a post-Grenfell world?”, the FIA ​​conference will highlight developments following the Grenfell Tower fire and focus on the how the industry as a whole can continue to put its best foot forward.

Huw Jakeway (Fire Chief of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service) will deliver the conference keynote address. Additionally, there will be presentations from industry experts, including Iain Bowker (co-owner and director of Ensure Safety and Compliance). Bowker will focus on the impact of the Fire Safety Act 2021 and the Building Safety Act 2022 as they relate to fire risk assessments.

Importantly, FIA CEO Ian Moore will present on the building safety information portal, while the trade association’s technical director, Will Lloyd, will talk about documentation and special inspections.

The conference also contains a host of continuing professional development seminars offered by representatives from FIA member companies Advanced, C-TEC, Tio Fire Safety and Aico. These sessions are designed to cover a range of topics including emergency lighting, BS 5839 part 6 level C, digital fire logs and remote data access.
