Smoke was seen in a Scottish town this morning as a large fire broke out in an industrial area,
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the Lenziemill industrial area in Cumbernauld after receiving reports of a fire.
Two fire apparatuses were called in to help extinguish the flames at around 8:10 a.m.
Thick black smoke could be seen from across the city as firefighters battled the well-developed blaze.
It is understood that the scaffolding of one of the industrial units had ignited.
Fire crews spent around an hour putting out the flames, with people being urged to avoid the Telford Place area.
No casualties were reported.
A Scottish fire and rescue spokesperson said: ‘We received an initial call at 8:10 am and mobilized two fire apparatus to the scene.
âIt was scaffolding that was lit and there were no casualties.
“The crews used two main jets, a reel jet and two breathing apparatus.
“The stop message arrived at 9:03 am and we are now far from the scene.”
Residents reported seeing the black smoke on social media.
One resident wrote: âI saw black smoke from my window. I hope no one is hurt.
While another added: “I could see my job at Lenziemill looked bad.”
One last person commented: “I thought I saw smoke in the air earlier.”
