GF Tomlinson has completed work on a £3.4million fire station for the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service
The new fire station is located in the Vesuvius development off Sandy Lane in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, and replaces an earlier fire station which was built in 1963 and is located in Eastgate.
Plans for the project were submitted by the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service early last year and approved by Bassetlaw District Council.
The scheme is part of the wider Vesuvius development – a multi-million pound scheme which aims to become the city’s main industrial and commercial site, with a mix of light industrial units, food and drink outlets and planned office space, the first of which phase completed last summer.
Derby-based GF Tomlinson worked closely with fire and rescue service project management consultants Turner & Townsend on the plans.
The new fire station has the capacity to produce up to 50% of its energy consumption itself, and the building includes meeting rooms, offices, fire bays and a gymnasium for firefighters.
It also has a three-story practice tower and compound store, as well as parking spaces and exterior landscaping.
Kevin Dodds, Construction Manager at GF Tomlinson, said: “We really enjoyed attending the ceremonial opening of this impressive new facility.
“It has been a real pleasure to work alongside Nottingham Fire & Rescue Service and their team of consultants to successfully deliver this vital service to the local community.
“The fire station itself is state of the art, which means it is not only incredibly energy efficient, but provides the best possible facilities for firefighters to carry out their critical work and serve the community. Surrounding Bassetlaw.
“This project represents a huge investment for the region and we are delighted with the end result.
Terry Scott, Purchasing and Resource Manager at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: ‘I am very proud to be part of the opening of this new state-of-the-art fire station, which is now our flagship property. “. within the domain.

“I would like to thank the entire project team for what has been a very successful project.”
