GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The Hatchetbury, an ax throwing bar, hosted its very first Guns Vs. Pipe Charity Tournament today.
Alachua County Firefighters and the Gainesville Police Department have teamed up to make it happen.
âIt’s going to be a friendly competition but it’s still cops against firefighters. There is a long history of gun-on-pipe tournaments and styling competitions, so we’re glad we were able to bring this to Alachua County, âsaid Brandon Starr, vice president of Rescue Professionals. Alachua County fire.
Each department has brought together teams to participate in a tournament between brackets.
Starr said he hopes this shows the community how first responders come together on and off the job.
“Besides being in the fire department, I have a lot of family members in the police department, and you know we work closely with them on a daily basis within our own community,” said he declared.
Many in the community have tried ax throwing for the first time.
All the benefits collected benefit families who have been through or affected by a tragedy.
“Examples of some of the things we have recently given to firefighters who have suffered acute injuries or illnesses within their families with extended hospital stays, as well as those affected by residential house fires,” said Starr said.
The Hatchetbury owner has said this is the first Guns Vs Hoses tournament, but she really hopes it won’t be the last.
