Man arrested for shooting on Porto Madrid Boulevard

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham Police are investigating after a shooting on November 7 at around 8.46pm on Boulevard Oporto Madrid.

Police say the suspect has been identified as Mazin Othman, 40, of Hoover, Alabama.

Birmingham 911 received a Shot Spotter notification that a shot had been fired in the vicinity of 125 Porto Madrid Boulevard. A Chevron is located at this address. A few minutes later, a member of the community called 911 to say that a man had been shot at that location.

According to the police, upon arrival, officers discovered that the victim suffered from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment.

Community members provided information that led investigators to believe Othman, a Chevron employee, was the shooter. Othman was taken into custody for investigation.

Birmingham Police detectives have obtained arrest warrants for second-degree assault and dumping in occupied accommodation, with bail totaling $45,000.

Mazin Othman has since been released on bail from Jefferson County Jail.
