Second man charged in connection with death of John Dalziel after Paisley house fire

A second man has been charged in connection with the death of John Dalziel.

Emergency services rushed to a fire at a property on Whitesbridge Avenue in Paisley, Renfrewshire, after being alerted to the blaze at 10pm on May 6 last year.

Officers then found John inside.

He was removed by firefighters and rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, but died a short time later.

On May 20, John Thomas, 38, appeared in Paisley Sheriff’s Court charged in connection with the death.

He did not plead the sole charge against him and was again remanded in custody after being fully committed to trial.

Police have since confirmed that a second man has been charged in connection with the death.

The 57-year-old is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

A statement from Police Scotland read: “Police Scotland can confirm that a second man has been charged in connection with the death of John Dalziel in Paisley.

“The 57-year-old is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday January 26, 2022.

“Mr Dalziel, 47, was found at a property on Whitesbridge Avenue in the city after emergency services were called to report a fire at around 10.05pm on Thursday May 6, 2021.

“He died shortly after being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

“A 38-year-old man has already been charged in connection with the death and appeared in court in May 2021.”
